JEANNE MAYO
The theme for this month is one of my favorites. I'm calling it, "The Call is Higher Than the Fall." Why is it one of my favorites? All the greats, with the exception of Jesus, have failed. God gives us examples in both the Old and New Testament. I probably would not have made it in my Christian life, let alone leadership, had I not allowed the Lord to pound that into my head early.

So, listen to this month's resources for those times when you just want to quit. Also listen for whoever your ministering to now, so you can be a fountain of hope in their lives. Because after repentance, the call on everybody's life really is much higher than the fall.

Lovingly,

LEADERSHIP RESOURCES

VIDEO RESOURCE

There are countless moments in ministry where you can feel like a failure and you begin to wonder if what you are doing is really making a difference. I know I've felt like that plenty of times. Whether it's from comparing ourselves to other leaders, people going backwards spiritually, or whatever it may be, just know that none of us are strangers to mind games. But if we want to make a real difference in the lives of those we are leading, we have to fight through the mind games.
This mentoring is a leadership pep talk that I often give to myself. It's this kind of self-talk that has kept me in the game for over five decades. Henry Thoreau said, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, maybe it is because he marches to the beat of a different drummer." And through the run when challenges came, I learned that no man is ever down for the count...until he quits in his own mind. So, I just get back up and keep drumming!

MESSAGES TO TEACH

So often when we mess up in our Christian walk, the mind games immediately begin to tell us it's not worth trying to get back on track again. After all, we'll just keep messing up! I spoke about this inner battle with my own gang, in this Message called, "The Call Is Higher Than The Fall."
The devastation we've seen from landmines and other IEDs used in the last decade has been heart-wrenching. While not as physically debilitating, the effects of the traps the Enemy sets for our students can be catastrophic as well. For 1 Peter 5:8 graphically reminds us, "Be self-controlled and alert. Our Enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone he can devour."

BONUS VIDEOS

We all want to tell our stories of glory and grander, but no one talks much about being faithful in the hard crushing times. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "We will reap a harvest...if we do not give up and quit."
Charles Spurgeon used to talk about what he called the "minister's fainting fits." The times when he wanted to quit. If you have never felt like quitting, you haven't done ministry for longer than a month or two.
